Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon. My name is Ayla Halberstadt, the Director of Religious Exploration at UUFCO. I am so pleased you have decided to visit our church today. I look forward to talking with you and your family and getting to know you better! I want to take this time to give you a short overview of what a typical Sunday in Religious Exploration looks like at UUFCO
Both children and adults all gather in the sanctuary for the 10:30 am service time. During this time we will sing, welcome new visitors, hear announcements, and settle into our worship time. Two times per month we will have a story for all ages in the sanctuary, at this time in the service children, youth and children at heart are welcome to come up to the front to hear the story. After our story the children and youth will stay up front to light our children’s chalice, and we also take that time to recite our children’s covenant. The covenant is “In this place, I am kind, In this place, I am loving. In this place, I am a friend to the earth and all animals and people. In this place, I am loved.” While we take the lit chalice and the love and light, the adult congregation stands and those on the aisle form an arch for the children to walk through taking us to the back of the sanctuary, while singing the song “As You Go.”
Once we are in the RE area the children will do a small ingathering in the common area before going into the designated classrooms. In this ingathering time we will have time to share joys and sorrows and welcome new children and youth. After our ingathering we will move into our classrooms for the RE lessons, divided into K-2, 3-5 and 6-9 grade classrooms . The first Sunday of each month we will have a children’s creative arts service where grades K-5 stay together in the common area and work with members of the congregations on creative arts projects. The 6-9th grade group will remain in service the first Sunday of the month and participate in a brief discussion about the worship immediately following the service.
Once the service is done we ask that you please come and pick your child up from the RE common area (Sophia Fahs Commons) within 15 minutes. If you lose track of time, please do not worry, a staff member or RE volunteer will happily walk with your child to find you during coffee hour.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you have. I look forward to getting to know you personally and working with you and your family.
In faith and love,
Director of Religious Exploration
