Progress Updates 2013 - January to June

April 11, 2013 Update: The Key to Our New Home Success is You!

If you were in attendance at the New Home congregation update last Sunday, you saw the impressive progress that has been made on the schematic design of our new home. Our design team from THA Architecture presented a revised floor plan and siting that is more in alignment with our budget. There are still many decisions to be made as we move into the design development phase of the project.

In the next two weeks we'll have pictures posted that reflect the current phase of the design. Please note that the design will be more defined over the next few months.

April 5, 2013 Update: April 7 Update meeting

The last update with our architects in the schematic design phase is this Sunday, April 7th, immediately after the service. Childcare will be provided.

Since the February presentation, the cost estimators have analyzed the design. THA Architecture will present revised renderings and floorplans to reflect our budget. This is an important meeting since we will be considering options as we prepare to move into Design Development. We want your input!

March 22, 2013 Update: Rescue Some Fescue

Are you a gardener in Central Oregon who would love to have more fescue featured in your landscaping?  You are invited to join Becky Dobrowski -- by appointment only -- at the New Home land:  in exchange for every clump of fescue that you rescue from the building site and transplant elsewhere on the land, you can take one home!  There is plenty of this Idaho Fescue available for transplanting.  Please call Becky at 541-420-2335 to arrange a time with her.  Becky is familiar with the projected footprint of the building and can direct your digging and transplanting.  You're also welcome to simply come and help with this much needed project, even if you don't want to take any fescue home.

(For those not yet familiar, the New Home property is located to the southeast of the intersection of NW Skyliners Road and Skyline Ranch Road.  This could be a fun way to get acquainted with the location.)

March 15, 2013 Update #1: New Home Meeting Date Changed to April 7

The congregation meeting with our architects has been rescheduled to April 7th, immediately after the service. Childcare will be provided.

This is a very important meeting since we will have cost estimates and will be considering options. It is the last meeting in the schematics phase, so do plan to come! We want your input!

March 7, 2013 Update #2:  SAVE OUR GRASSES! ~ New Home Work Parties

Friday/Saturday/Sunday:  March 8, 9, 10

Is spring weather giving you that urge to dig in the dirt?  Be part of a big salvage operation on the footprint of our New Home! This coming weekend we will dig up bunch grasses, transplant them to disturbed areas on the site and put many "in storage" until construction is complete.

We need to get this work done now, while grasses are dormant and can be watered by spring snow and rain.

You are invited to "dig, carry, and plant" at work parties on the New Home site:

  • Friday, March 8th anytime between 10 am and 3 pm
  • Saturday, March 9th anytime between 10 am and 3 pm
  • Sunday, March 10th between 1 to 4 pm

Please let Martha Lussenhop know if you can come for one hour or more any of these days.  Specify the hours if you can.   Spread the word and bring your friends

Check the weather and bring suitable clothes, good work shoes or boots, work gloves, shovel or pitchfork, hand trowel, a pail or two, a wagon or wheelbarrow (if you have one), water and snacks. If you would like to improve a weedy, eroded area, please bring a hard rake too.

Parking:  Please park on the west side of Skyline Ranch Road, just south of Skyliners--staying clear of the bike trail to the west. Walk east on the bike trail to a trailer that we're filling with bunchgrasses. We should be nearby.

March 7, 2013 Update #1

New Home Update Postponed: The March meeting with THA Architects has been postponed.

After careful consideration, it was decided that we will fine-tune the design a bit more before discussing cost options with the congregation, so both the March 16 and March 24 meetings are now cancelled. We will let you know as soon as the all-congregational meeting is rescheduled.

Looking ahead: Once the date is set, we are seeking a volunteer videographer to record the meeting. Please contact Leslie Koc at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have the equipment and would like to contribute your services to our having a record of the gathering. Thank you!

January 25, 2013 Update

All Congregation Meetings:   Saturday, February 16 and Saturday, March 16

10:00am to noon at the Old Stone
