Progress Updates 2013 - July to December

October 28, 2013 Update: UUFCO New Home Recognized by Portland AIA

The Portland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently announced their annual awards for design excellence. Our new home was selected in the 'unbuilt' category by a prestigious jury of national and international architects. You can see THA Architecture's submission on our website and read what inspired their design for our building -- especially the geology of our site and the principles of Unitarian Universalism.

October 24, 2013 Update: Seeking Task Force to Name Rooms in New Home

Help name the rooms in our new home!

Would you like to be part of a task force that would research possible names for our new home spaces? By naming them after famous--or not so famous--Unitarian Universalists we would increase awareness of our identity and heritage, not only in our congregation, but in the greater community as well.

The Design Committee will give you a description of each space and their expected uses. Recommendations will go to the UUFCO Board for approval. October 7, 2013 Update: Driveway, Land Use Rules

Today we have a "real" driveway on Skyline Ranch Road! Our contractor, KNCC, is moving quickly! The construction fence will be up in a few days. If you want to visit, please read the updated Land Use Rules.

October 4, 2013 Update: Site Work Begins

Site work began a week ago. Already the driveway, north parking area, and building pad are cleared, and a connection is being cut into Skyline Ranch Road. Great care is being taken to protect as many trees as possible, as seen by orange fencing. Duff, topsoil, and rocks are being stockpiled for use later. The driveway has been nudged over in a few places to avoid beautiful trees. The large ponderosas that were impossible to save are being transferred to a mill where they will be kept for future furniture and benches for our new home.

September 30, 2013 Update: Groundbreaking for our New Home

On a sunny and windy Sunday, September 15, we celebrated the Groundbreaking of our future home. In addition to Amy Falkenrath, UUFCO Board President, and Don Hartsough, NHP Capital Campaign Chair, we were honored to have speakers from our Central Oregon and UU communities make this a special occasion in our UUFCO history. Jodie Barram, Bend City Mayor Pro Tem, Janine Larsen, UU PNWD Executive Director, Rev. Craig Perryman, Chair of Interfaith Network of Central Oregon, Rev. Terry Sweetser, VP for Stewardship and Development of UUA, each shared words of inspiration and recognition. Katrina Foster, Stewardship Director of UUA, delivered a greeting from UUA President, Rev. Peter Morales.  Our Rev. Alex Holt led us in a prayer and water blessing. In keeping with the inclusive theme of our New Home Project, everyone in attendance was invited to lift a shovel and turn some earth to celebrate the groundbreaking. It wouldn’t be a UUFCO event without music. Marean Jordan, Chela Sloper, Judy Trask and Aaron Coe and their guitars led us in the same song that began our Land Blessing in May 2012. We have been beautifully launched into the next phase of our New Home Project. Pictures of the event and a copy of the program can be found in the Groundbreaking Event page of the UUFCO website.

August 16, 2013 Update: New Home Update - Sunday, August 18

Plan to attend a New Home update after service this Sunday!

Sunday August 18 after the service, the New Home architects, THA will present final design renderings, floor plan, exterior siding and more as the Design Development phase is concluded.

Those present at the meeting will be asked to assess where we are now and confirm moving forward with the Construction Document development phase.

This is not a formal vote, but will be a show of support for the plan. For those unable to attend, information and drawings will be provided via the web after the meeting.

Since we last reviewed the budget with the congregation, the Fellowship has been the fortunate recipient of additional gifts and pledges, bringing the construction budget to a total of $7.6 million. The plan that THA will present on August 18 will reflect those additions.

Refreshments will be served after service. We will begin the meeting promptly at 12:30pm and conclude by 1:45pm. Childcare will be provided.
